Suzu is a bright yet bratty and defiant nine-year-old boy with untreated ADHD, navigating a turbulent life in the lonely, culturally isolated mountains of Appalachia. Though docile and loving toward smaller creatures like insects, he has inherited a mean streak from his father, and struggles with impulsive acts of violence.
